How can i tell If my cat is a British short hair or a russian blue?

my cat is about 8 months old but i cant quite tell what breed it is ... are they're little features that would help me know and distinguish between the two breeds? How can i tell If my cat is a British short hair or a russian blue?
British shorthairs are fairly stocky build with strong bones, round faces and amber/gold coloured eyes. Russian blues are more slender build, with slim faces and bright green eyes. This article with photos explains the differences between the four breeds of blue cats.

Unless your cat came with official paperwork, he is most likely neither breed. Many random bred cats have colouring or features which resemble pedigree cats, but this doesn't mean that they are are descended from that particular breed. Unlike dogs, most cats in the world aren't a specific breed or even a mix of breeds - they are ';just'; cats that mother Nature created. They come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and fur lengths. It's from those random bred cats that most breeds were created, but that also means that domestic short haired/long haired cats will often resemble a particular breed. So unless your cat comes from a breeder complete with papers, or from a *reliable* breed-specific rescue, what you have is a blue domestic short haired cat.
What do the papers from the breeder say? Not from a breeder? Then no way in hell you have a kitten of either breed. Pedigreed kittens don't just ';show'; up - you buy them from breeders of those breeds and pay at least $600 for them. Your cat is simply a domestic shorthair of no particular breed - just like over 97% of the cats on this entire planet. Colour is called ';Blue'; as that's what dark gray is called in cat colours.

Cats were domesticated thousands of years ago and breeds only established in the last hundred or so years. So most cats have NO breeds whatsoever in their history. You also don't end up with ';mixes'; - like the person claiming their cat is ';half British Shorthair and half Russian Blue';. Breeders tend to sell their cats altered and NEVER allow crossbreeding.
It should say on the papers you got from the breeder when you bought the cat. Of course, if you didn't get the cat from a breeder and do not have papers from TICA or CFA stating the cat's pedigree and breed, then what you have is a called a Domestic Short Hair cat, or DSH. In other words, it is of no particular breed. Because cats domesticated themselves, and largely were left to choose their own mates, and for the most part, still are, more than 95% of cats today are simply domestic cats. It's not the same as dogs, that you can easily tell what breed or mix just by looking at the animal.
chances are unless you purchased it from a breeder it is neither - however I also like to get the closest fit to a breed on my cats - I believe the british short hair has a rounder face and shorter legs than a russian blue.

Go to a cat show and you will see them up close and personal. I have been to one and it was weird and fun. I was able to see hundreds of breeds and hold many of the younger cats. Strange group of people.....
At 8 months old you should have received your registration papers from his breeder if he is of any breed. If he didn't come from a breeder then he is a domestic short hair cat of no breed. Yes, I piece a paper is all that their is that will tell you about what breed he is.

R P CAT
british blue has more of a rounded, fatter face, with the russian blue being more longer and thinner. my cat is a cross between both of these lol
You should go and ask your local pet store, they should know and i imagine they'll be happy to answer your questions!
you know, it might just be a mixd breed between the both. you never know.
