The American Shorthair cat is a medium sized breed, so yours is about right. You can get some larger and smaller than ';normal'; but as long as your cat isn't over-weight for it's size, it is perfect.
Purebred American SH are medium size cats - about 9-12 lbs when grown.





If its a mixed breed the average would still be about that weight. Keep an eye on your cat, if he's only a year old and weighs 11/12 lbs, he can get bigger. Cats grow till about 2 yrs old - I would watch what he's eating and not free feed.
For a male cat. its weight ranges from 11 to 15 pounds





For a female cat. its weight ranges from 8 to 12 pounds.
