What is the difference between a German Shepherd and a German Short hair?

Is the difference the short hair and long hair? Or is it a different type of dog?What is the difference between a German Shepherd and a German Short hair?
Do you mean a German short-haired pointer? If so, that is a different breed to a German shepherd.

i have a german shorthair, they are very energetic and they are a pointer, like when people are hunting birds. a german sheperd has a thicker coat and is used as a police dog.

There is a long haired variety of German Shepherd Dog which looks different to the more common shorter haired dog, but when people say “German Shorthair” they are usually referring to a German Shorthaired Pointer.
Like the PPs said, they are two VERY different breeds. The German Shorthair is indeed a hunting dog, and the German ShepHERD (not sheperd or shepard, remember they HERD the sheep, not erd or ard them) is a herding dog. The German Shepherd is used for MANY jobs, not just police work. The GSD isn't even the most commonly used breed in police work anymore. Their original purpose was for herding, but with their intelligence, temperament, and trainability, it was soon realized they were good for more than just herding. The job they excel at the most, though, is as a family member, not to be confused with the neglected ';yard dog.';
it is a different type of dog. a german shorthair is a hunting dog. look up pictures
The German Shepherd Dog is in the Herding group.

The German Shorthaired Pointer is in the Sporting group.

Different breeds, different functions.
