Is it normal for my 4month old Golden Retriever to have short hair?

I have a female AKC registered Golden Retriever that is 4 months old. Her hair looks more like a lab. Is it possible that she is a mix? Does it take a long time for their hair to grow out? Her hair is a little bit longer (but not much) on her chest and back of her legs.Is it normal for my 4month old Golden Retriever to have short hair?
Some Female golden's never get the full feathering as males do! She is still very young and still has her puppy fur. I would not be looking for her to get her feathering in until she is very close to 12 months of age if she gets much at all.

she may also just be of the genetic makeup not to have full beautiful feathering. What did her mom and dad look like???

That will give you a hint of what her feathering may look like when she is older too.Is it normal for my 4month old Golden Retriever to have short hair?
Their fur does look short when they are puppies and they usually start to lose their puppy coat around about 6 months and then their featherings will gradually appear but they are not usually in full feathering until they are about 12 months. This is when they will look their best and more like a Golden Retriever.

I always think 4 months is the age when puppies look their worst. It's the time when their back legs look as if they don't belong to their body and they start to look long and gangly. Just remember to keep upping her food during this growth spurt if you don't want to end up with a skinny dog. Give her time and she will blossom as she matures into a beautiful lady.

If your puppy is AKC registered then I think it is highly unlikely that she is a mix.
Golden Retrievers naturally have short fur when young, it will grow out more. Coat length is genetic so if there is a recessive gene for shorter fur length than it can come out.

You should honestly pick up a book about Golden Retrievers and read up on the breed, it will answer many questions you may have yet to ask.
I havea golden retreiver mix and her hair is short to. The hair on and around her chest, belly, ears, tail and legs is longer also. It is normal for the hair to be like that. When It grows out more you'll need to brush it a good amount and make sure to. When we got are dog ( She wasnt taking care of at her last home) The hair behind her ears was tangled and it was very hard to get out and it gets tangle easy to. But anyways the hair growth should be normal. Good luck with your dog!!
Don't know much about Goldens, but if you'd like to research her pedigree, try this site. It's free to register, then you can look up your dog or her parents.

While AKC is the most trustworthy registry, this goes only as far as assuming the breeder and all previous breeders have been honest.
If you have pictures it would help... the best way I can help is to tell you to go to the petstore or online and look at pictures of golden puppies to compare how your dog looks. If you have any AKC breeders nearby you could call and ask to come look.

What did vet say at first checkup? Did you see parents at the breeders?
yes! I know a few people who own golden retrievers and theirs were the same. It is possible that she was cross bred a few generations back but it may take a while for her to fully grow her 'adult' coat until she is more like 8-12 months

hope this helps :) xx
If she is AKC registered she is a Golden. I've no experience with the breed.
Here is a pic of a 3 month old Golden you can use for comparison.

yup. just like with human babies, her hair will grow as she grows, it may not get as long as you would like, but it will grow.
Her hair will grow out. If she is AKC then she is a Golden.
It's perfectly normal. Their puppy fur is shorter, but grows longer in time.
Its normal
her hair is growing in slow in some places
